URHOBO (Akka people): The origin and history of Urhobo formally known as Akka people has been a discourse of debate for some time now. Those who knew or appear to know some facts which are hidden from the public have held these secrets because they stand to gain from it. The attitude of some of them as we know had been to cook up false stories and campaign of calumny in order to inherit property. Urhobos; docile as they are, are keen to know their rich history. In Urhobo-world.org, we have embarked on this journey to correct the erroneous impression that the urhobos were a savage people as reported in the outside world and were children to some other ethnic groups as observed in the behavioural attitudes and speech of others we know of.
We have embarked on this journey not only to correct the wrong impressions but to dig out the truth and authenticity of our heritage. There remains one question; why is the seeming hatred for the Urhobo by some ethnic groups within her boundaries? Answer: History always repeat itself; we found in ancient Egypt that the Benin (Bini), Ijaw (Izon), Itsekiri, Igbo, Hausa, Urhobo, Ga and Yoruba including others once lived together amicably and in upheavals several years before the Arabs, Greeks and Romans evict them in a mass exodus from Egypt. Incidentally they dominated as leaders in the Delta of Egypt where the Akka people comprising the ethnic groups listed above once lived. During this period in time; enemies and friends were made. Indeed, an Itsekiri-Greek King once rebelled thereby changing the name of Amon city to Akhetaten. He banished the gods: Re ( god of Urhobo in Egypt ), Osiris (Oziri in Ijaw, Ausar in Hausa, Aesar in Uvwie-Urhobo, Roman and Greek, Izezi in Okpe-Urhobo ), Ptah ( Yoruba god of everything ), Amon ( Urhobo god of the moon ), including many other lesser gods except Shu and Aten (Aton god).
“This same Pharaoh (King) was our dear Moses in the Bible”. - (Moustafa Gadalla; Tut-Ankh-Amon, the Living Image of the Lord. Gadalla publishers, 1997).
Remember Moses coming down from the mount Sinai? That mountain was actually known as Mount Horemhobo. (Notice the end of Horemhobo i.e. Hobo)
Also; remember the origin of the name Uhobo which eventually became Urhobo? It is very very possible that the name of the patriarch General Horemhobo who was the last Pharaoh of the 18 th dynasty was assigned to the former most senior Akka ethnic group as Urhobo people, he ruled Egypt from 1348-1335 BCE. On the other hand, the badly flogged stories of Urhobo people being naturally children of one patriarchal ethnic group is a lie. The proof lies in the fact that the Urhobos once lived in both Zevbaka and Amono in ancient Egypt, the Benis lived in Bini while the Itsekiris lived in Goshen , all on the right side of the river Nile while the Yorubas lived in Sakara and other places on the opposite side of the Nile .
