ADA-ENE OKPE FESTIVAL

 

Is an Okpe Cultural group of Urhobo Tribe Festival celebrated every year.

It is held on the 30th of December when Okpe people converge in Delta State town of Orerokpe, the Capital of Okpe from around Nigeria. A period when traditional titles are conferred on worthy sons and daughters.

Delicious quisines are provided with cultural dances and Ancestral rituals are performed in remembrance of Ancestors

IBIOKPO MASQURADE

Is also an Okpe festival performed every year in Djeddo. A town close to Ekpan

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

OHWORUO-OKPA FESTIVAL

IS an Uvwie cultural group of Urhobo Tribe festival. The festival is celebrated every fifteen (15) years.

EDJUVWIE

Is an Uvwie Festival which has its Origin in Arhowa (Erhowa) celebrated every Year. This festival is celebrated in Uvwierorho and Evwokpokpo (Ephron, Effurun). An occasion which sees every citizen leaving all areas of Nigeria for Effurun.

Edjuvwie has two sets of Masqurades; 1). The main Masqurade has a costume of: A mask which looks like South African women Head Gear and the Hat of Queen Nefertiti of ancient Egypt. It is coloured red. Ordinarily, the head mask is shaped like a bucket. Curiously, the masqurade is clothed in a material used also by the Jews.

The other Masqurade is 2). The Igwe. They are of lesser category. (To be continued)

More curiously, Ephron, Mamre, Yoree (Toree) and Rekhmire has got meaning in Uwvie Language. These are found in the Bible book of Genesis 23:16-17.

Edjuvwie is the ancestral deity of Uvwie People.
